DHAKA: Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun Sunday claimed that the law-and-order situation of the country is under control, dismissing the opposition allegation of an upturn in the incidence of crime.

“We could ensure people’s security before and after the holy Eid and we would try to keep the law-and-order situation under control in the days ahead,” she said.

She came up with the claim at a briefing with journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting held at her office in planning programmes for the Victory Day.

She also informed that the government has formed different committees at different levels for marking the Victory Day.

The committees would take necessary steps to control law-and-order situation by conducting separate meetings, she said.

About the allegation of barring opposition leaders from going abroad, the home minister said that the opposition raised the allegation “without any reason”, trying to organize their anti-government movement.

“People did not participate in movement sans issues and would not participate in the future,” she said.

“I don’t know anything about the list of prohibition barring opposition leaders from going abroad,” the minister said in reply to a question about the allegation of the BNP Secretary-General about embargo on 70 leaders.

“I will inquire into the matter,” she said.

State Minister of the ministry Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, government high officials, including the secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, were present at the interministrial meeting.
