Allocate Tk 2000 crore for CHT development: Noman

CHITTAGONG: Opposition BNP’s Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman urged the government to aloocate more Tk 2000 crore for the development of the port city of Chittagong.

”The government gets enough revenue from Chittagong port and tax department and other sectors,” he said to underpin his plea for allocating the additional funds for the city corporation.

He also said all the countrymen would enjoy the benefits from the development of Chittagong if the government gives Tk 2000 crore lump allocation.

While exchanging views with journalists at a restuarant in the port city, the former minister said the government would not be successful as it „oppressed the opposition leaders and introduced the culture of changing names”.

He declared a plan to call anti-government movement from Chittagong.

He said the four development projects inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Chittagong were taken during the BNP tenure.

„But the Prime Minister mentioned those as part of Awami League government’s programmes,” he alleged.

He claimed that BNP has done development with projects worth Tk 7,000 crore in Chittagong from 1996 to 2001 during the four-party allience governemnet’s rule.
