GAIBANDHA: Police on Thursday (January 19) arrested 10 members of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including an accused in the murder case of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton from Sundarganj and Palashbari upazilas of Gaibandha district.

The accused in the murder case was identified as Saiful Islam, 35, son of Sundarganj Thana unit Jamaat Ameer Yunus Ali.

District police control room operator Abdur Rasid confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

“The other arrestees are accused in several other cases and the court issued arrest warrant against them,” he added.

Sundarganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Atiar Rahman told Banglanews that Shaiful Islam will be sent to the court after being quizzed.

Earlier on December 31, 2016, unknown assailants shot the ruling Awami League lawmaker Liton inside his home in Sundarganj upazila of the district.

The parliamentarian was declared dead at 7:40 pm after he had been taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
