DHAKA: Ruling Awami League on Tuesday afternoon (January 31) submitted five names of prospective chief election commissioner (CEC) and other election commissioners for the formation of Election Commission.

AL office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap submitted a sealed letter containing the names to the additional secretary of cabinet division Abdul Wadud around 1:00 pm.

Later, he said the journalists that the party leaders held an emergency meeting at Gana Bhaban on Monday night.

“All the leaders present were asked to propose five names. Later, five names were selected from the proposed names,” he added.

He further said while selecting names they put emphasis on their background, qualification, integrity and commitment to the Liberation War.
