DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday (February 2) fixed February 9 as the date to hear the statement of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The third Special Judge Abu Ahmed Jamader of the Bakshibazar makeshift court passed the order.

Earlier, the court denied the plea of Khaleda Zia who expressed no-confidence in a trial court judge.

The court also denied the BNP chief’s pleas to reinvestigate the case and adjournment of the case.

The court said the charge of this case was framed around three years ago.

“According to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Act, cases have to be settled by 60 working days. There is no scope of filing this kind of appeals with the court at the final stage of the proceedings of the case,” the court added.

On August 8, 2011, ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.

The other accused in the case are Harris Chowdhury, Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary (APS) to Harris, and Monirul Islam Khan, APS to Sadeque Hossain Khoka, mayor of the erstwhile Dhaka City Corporation.
