CHITTAGONG: A district court on Tuesday (March 14) placed 17 detained extremists on a two-day remand each.
Metropolitan Magistrate Harunur Rashid passed the order in response to a seven-day remand plea by Double Mooring thana police.
Recently Double Mooring police detained three extremist members from a secret meeting. On their information, police then conducted drives and detained 14 others.
Double Mooring police station officer-in-charge (OC) AKM Mohiuddin Selim said the detainees are members of banned extremist outfit Hizb-Ut-Tahrir, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and black listed Hizb-ut-Tawhid, Ahle Hadith.
They were put on remand in a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act, the OC added.
