DHAKA: The High Court has stayed the suspension of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Dastagir Hossain and Justice Ataur Rahman passed the order on Monday (April 03) following a writ petition.

Earlier in the morning, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, who was removed again on April 02 within hours of resuming office, filed the writ petition with the HC challenging legality of the suspension order.

Arif’s lawyer Abdul Halim Kafi confirmed the matter.

On the other hand, suspended mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Mosaddek Hosain Bulbul, who was also removed again within minutes of resuming office, is ready to file a writ petition with the HC.

Bulbul’s lawyer Aminul Haque Helal said that they completed all the preparation for writ petition. They will file the petition with the HC anytime.

The two mayors had been suspended earlier by the government.

The local government ministry issued separate circulars on Sunday again removing them from office.

Bulbul was suspended within 10 minutes after he had taken charges while Arif was suspended within three hours after he had resumed office in the noon.
