COX'S BAZAR: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has attacked Ziaur Rahman-led the-then BNP government, Ershad-led Jatiya Party government and Khaleda Zia-led BNP governments for failing to settle the longstanding issues with India.
“Awami League always works for realizing the rights of people of Bangladesh. We have only realized the proper rights from the neighboring countries, including India. Zia, Ershad and Khaleda Zia had been in power, but they had no boldness to talk for rights,” she said.
The PM was addressing a rally at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday afternoon (May 06).
Before addressing the rally, the premier inaugurated 16 development projects.
Criticizing the BNP, Sheikh Hasina said that the BNP does not believe in the development. Awami League works for the country’s development, while BNP-Jamaat works for the ruining, she alleged.
She called upon the people to vote for the boat, the electoral symbol of the ruling Awami League, for development. “Please, continue the development trend of the country through voting for Awami League”, she said.
The PM accused the BNP of not standing beside the people of Cox’s Bazar during the disaster in 1991 following the devastating cyclone. “The party had been in the power, but the BNP chief Khaleda Zia had been unaware about havoc of the Cox’s Bazar people. In that time, I had raised the issue in the Parliament. We had also visited Cox’s Bazar and tried to help the depressed people,” She said.
Sheikh Hasina said that importance of Cox's Bazar is very important following establishment of Bangladesh's claim over huge sea boundary with India and Myanmar.
Pointing out their steps taken for development of Cox's Bazar, she said Cox's Bazar airport would be developed as a modern and international-standard airport, while several other projects would also be implemented for development in the district.
She alleged that Cox's Bazar has been always neglected despite having the longest beach of the world. She promised to work for development in the district.
