Khaleda’s two other sabotage cases stayed

DHAKA: Legal proceedings of two other sabotage cases filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia have been halted by the High Court.

The HC bench of Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah passed the order on Sunday (May 07) after hearing the petitions filed by the BNP chief.

The two cases were filed with Darus Salam police station in the city. Besides, six other sabotage cases and a sedition case were also halted by the High Court earlier.

The HC bench also issued rule in the two cases asking the government to explain why the lower court’s order that took cognizance of the charges against Khaleda Zia should not be annulled.

Supreme Court’s lawyers Joynul Abedin, AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon moved for the BNP chief in the court, while deputy attorney general Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir moved for the state.

Police filed the sabotage cases against Khaleda Zia and others in 2015 during the anti-government movement enforced by the BNP-led alliance.

Police submitted the charge-sheets in the cases to a Dhaka court last year.
