BNP leader Tuku freed on bail

DHAKA: BNP vice-chairman and former state minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has been released on bail.

He was freed from Dhaka Central Jail on Friday morning (May 12). Later, he was admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment, said BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan.

A Sirajganj court on April 10 sent the BNP leader to the jail after Tuku surrendered before court in several cases filed against him, including the cases filed for torching train in the district.

On October 11 in 2010, six BNP men crushed under the wheels of the speedy train in the district while BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was attending a rally there as the chief guest.

Seven separate cases were filed in the incident accusing Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and thousand other leaders and activists.
