10 injured in Rajshahi BNP factional clash

RAJSHAHI: Two rival groups of the BNP locked into a factional clash during the party’s Rajshahi city unit activists’ conference at the Uttara Community Centre in the city on Monday (May 15).

The incident happened at about 5:00 pm in presence of the party’s senior leaders, including the party’s standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy.

At least 10 people were injured in the factional clash. A BNP activist named Ujjal, received severe injury. He was taken to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

It is learnt that the clash broke out between two groups led by BNP chairperson’s adviser Mizanur Rahman Minu and Rajshai city BNP president and the RCC mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul.

The BNP men locked into the clash over newly formed committee of the Rajshahi city unit and the local Juba Dal. The two groups chased each other during the clash.

Supporters of Mizanur Rahman Minu and the post deprived leaders and workers of the party have been opposing the newly formed committees and staging demonstration against Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul since the committees were announced some days ago. They rejected the committees.

On information, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control by dispersing the BNP men. The senior leaders of the party also intervened to take the situation under control.

Goyeshwar Chandra Roy was present as chief guest with Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul in the chair. Mizanur Rahman Minu and BNP’s central organizing secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu were also present at the time.
