Section 144 withdrawn from Rangamati’s Langdu, 300 sued, 7 held

RANGAMATI: The local administration has withdrawn the ‘Section 144’ from Langdu upazila in Rangamati, as the situation created after arson attack on tribal peoples’ home has been normalcy.  

The ‘Section 144’ was withdrawn from Saturday noon (June 03) following a meeting of the local administration with elected representatives and local political leaders.

The meeting was held at the auditorium of Langdu Upazila Parishad. Deputy commissioner (DC) of Rangamati Manzarul Mannan and superintendent of police 9SP) Sayeed Tariqul Hassan also attended the meeting, among others.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed accusing 300 people over the arson attack on the homes of tribal peoples and police assault. Longdu police filed the case mentioning the names of fifteen persons.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Langdu police station Mominul Islam said that seven people have already been arrested in the case. The arrestees are Sabuj, Khayer, Mamun, Abul Kalam, Saiful Islam, Shah Alam and Shahid.

Demonstrators protesting the death of a local Jubo league leader Nurul Islam Nayan had committed the acts of arson on Friday (June 02). The Jubo League leader had been found dead near the Khagrachari-Dighinala road.
