BNP’s Fakhrul, Khosru hurt in Rangunia attack Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir injured in the incident

CHITTAGONG: The motorcade of BNP’s delegation, which was en route to Rangamati led by the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to visit the landslides affected people, was attacked at Rangunia in Chittagong on Sunday (June 18).

The incident took place at Gochhra area of Rangunia upazila at about 10:00 am. 

Mirza Fakhrul and the party’s standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were injured in the attack. 

BNP alleged that ruling party cadres carried out the attack on the party’s senior leaders.

Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury told Banglanews that brick chunks were hurled at them while they were crossing Gochhra area. Some 15-20 youths vandalized their vehicles with iron rods and sticks. 

However, being obstructed in the attack, the delegation team moved back to Chittagong, said Khosru.

The delegation also includes BNP’s central health affairs secretary Dr Faoaz Hossain Shuvo, Chittagong divisional organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and Chittagong city unit general secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar. 

On June 12, heavy overnight rain triggered a series of landslides in the hilly areas of Rangamati, Bandarban and Chittagong claiming at least 159 lives.
