DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir remarked that the ruling party has become frantic for holding on to power.
He made the claim in a statement sent by party co-office secretary Belal Ahmed on Sunday (July 9) where Fakhrul also condemned the arrest of BNP's publicity secretary VP Mohammad Hanif in a case on the night of July 7.
Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘The ruling party is so desperate to retain power that they are ready to suppress the opposition parties by any means necessary. Moreover, disappearance, abduction and extra judicial killings are going along on the side to execute their political goals.’
Mentioning Hanif as a victim of political vigilance, he demanded for Hanif’s release.
“The government does not value democracy, justice, freedom of expression and human rights because they were not elected by people’s vote. However, people have had enough of this and it is time to throw away this extremist ruling party.”
