DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has thanked the civil society members who participated in a dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) and advised the commission to deploy army during the next polls.
Speaking at a rally on Tuesday (August 01), the BNP leader said, “I thanked the civil society members as they talked about election-time supportive government and deployment of army during the next Parliamentary polls. They realized the fact that free and fair poll is impossible without an election-time neutral government. We have been saying this.”
A pro-BNP organization arranged the rally at Shishu Kalyan Auditorium in the capital city demanding release of BNP’s vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu.
BNP senior joint secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, joint secretary general Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel and Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas also spoke in the function among others.
As part of the roadmap for the 11th Parliamentary polls, the EC started electoral talks through holding discussion with the civil society members on Monday (July 31).
About 40 civil society personalities took part in the talks. Most of them opined for restoring the provision of army deployment and provide ‘no vote’ option by amending the Representation of Peoples Order (RPO) to conduct the next polls in fair and free atmosphere.
