Govt grabs judiciary: BNP

DHAKA: The BNP has alleged that the government has established absolute control over the judiciary by forcibly sending Chief Justice SK Sinha on a one-month leave.

The party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed made the allegation at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Saturday (October 07).

Rizvi Ahmed said that there is now no difference among the executive, judiciary and legislative as the judiciary is controlled and dependent. Sheikh Hasina’s supremacy has been established in all the organs of the state, he commented.

He said that the people of the county now apprehend that now verdict of the Supreme Court will be controlled from the Prime Minister Office. The Chief Justice was humiliated through the forced leave, while dignity and image of the judiciary were violated. It is an unprecedented incident in the history of the country, he said.

The BNP leader said that all the quarters have to be united against the government. Otherwise, the people of different opinions won’t get justice from the apex court.

He said that the Awami League made a healthy man ill. It is not new for the party, as the party had made its founding general secretary Shamsul Haque of Tangail mad. Many other leaders of the party were removed from the party posts through making them ill, he said.

Rizvi Ahmed alleged that the government is now forcibly sending SK Sinha abroad. The ministers and advisers of the government met the Chief Justice in his residence and created pressure on him to leave the country.
