20 held, 50 hurt in Noakhali cop-BNP clash

NOAKHALI: At least fifty leaders and activists of BNP, including police personnel, were injured in a clash between police and BNP in different areas of Noakhali town on Wednesday (Oct 11).
 
Besides, BNP central leader Mahbub Alamgir Alo and Sadar upazila general secretary VP Jasim Uddin, among 20 other leaders and activists of BNP were detained while protesting the arrest warrant issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a sabotage case. 

District general secretary Abu Hassan Noman of Chhatra Dal told Banglanews that the protest rally was peaceful, but police attacked them without any provocation.

Officer-in-charge (OC) Anwar Hossain of Sudharam Model Police Station in Noakhali Sadar told Banglanews that the law enforcers opened fire to bring the situation under control after supporters had started hurling stones at them.

Some were arrested for breaking laws, the OC added.
