BNP won't depend on others to go to power: Fakhrul

DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that BNP does not rely on any other to go to power. The party wants to go to the power through democratic process, he added.

The BNP leader was addressing a memorial meeting at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city on Monday (October 23).

Gono Sangskriti Dal, a pro-BNP cultural organization, arranged the meeting marking the 5th death anniversary language veteran Oli Ahad and and 76th birth anniversary of eminent filmmaker Chashi Nazrul Islam.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the country is now passing through a crisis moment. An autocratic government under the guise of democracy is governing the country and is providing misleading information to the international arena. “We meet the foreigners when they come to the country. We inform them about the absence of democracy,” he said.

He said that BNP believe in democracy and the party will restore democracy in the country. The countrymen will restore the democracy through struggle, he added.

About BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, Mirza Fakhrul said that Tarique Rahman is staying abroad for treatment, but the government is filing false case against him one after another.

About Rohingya issue, he said, "We still want to cooperate with the government. We have said many times to create national unity, but they denied it alleging that we are doing politics.  You are doing politics to establish a one-party government.”

President of the Gono Sangskriti Dal S. Al Mamun chaired the meeting, while BNP Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, daughter of Oli Ahad Barrister Rumin Farhana, wife of Chasi Nazrul Islam Joshna Kazi, Secretary General of Bangladesh NAP M Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan and NDP’s Acting Secretary General Md. Manzur Hossain Isa also spoke it, among others.
