DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said that his doesn’t want a polls-time supportive government, but the party wants restoration of caretaker government to oversee the 11th parliamentary elections.
The BNP leader made the statement at a discussion at the National Press Club in the city on Saturday (October 28).
National People's Party (NPP), a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, arranged the discussion on ‘11th Parliamentary Election'. The party chairman Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad chaired the meeting.
Moudud Ahmed said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the chief of the polls-time supportive government. Therefore, there would not be a free and fair election. So the BNP wants the elections under the caretaker government. Restoration of caretaker government needs for the sake of fair election.”
He also said that the Parliament has to be dissolved 90 days before the elections, and the army to be deployed with full authority.
“Supportive government will put pressure on Election Commission (EC), which would be deception with the folks. EC will use administration as it doesn’t have people in the field, and administration means the authority of Prime Minister. As a result, this process will result in an unfair election,” said Moudud Ahmed.
