FENI: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade came under attack after she had reached Feni on Saturday (October 28) on her way to Cox’s Bazar.
The party’s central Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie made the allegation.
The incident took place at about 4:45 pm when the BNP chief’s motorcade reached Debipur of Fotehpur area in Feni from Dhaka en route Cox’s Bazar. Later, the motorcade reached Feni Circuit House at about 5:00 pm.
Unknown miscreants attacked several media vehicles which were with the motorcade. No injury was reported in the incident. However, the miscreants snatched away the camera of Ekattor TV’s journalist who tried to capture photo of the attack.
Khaleda Zia left her Gulshan residence for Cox’s Bazar in the morning to see the situation of Rohingyas who have taken shelter at the refugee camps after fleeing widespread violence in Myanmar.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Khan Dudu and other senior leaders of the party are accompanying the BNP chief.
Many leaders and activists of the party joined with Khaleda Zia’s motorcade from Nayapaltan central office and several other places on her way.
Khaleda Zia will stay overnight in Chittagong Circuit House. She will start her journey for Cox’s Bazar on Sunday (October 28). She is scheduled to visit the refugee camps at Balukhali, Boalmari and Jamtali in Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
After distributing relief materials among the Rohingyas and inspecting their situation, she will return Dhaka on Tuesday (October 31).
Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie said that the miscreants vandalized 15 to 50 vehicles of the motorcade. Majorities of the attacked cars are media vehicles.
According to the BNP leader, the vehicles of DBC, Channel I, Boishakhi TV and Ekattor TV were vandalized in the attack. Some other vehicles carrying the BNP leaders and activists were also vandalized.
However, Khaleda Zia and her car were unharmed.
In an immediate reaction, BNP senior joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed at a press conference in Dhaka strongly protested and condemned the attack.
He came down heavily on the government and termed the attack an act of terrorism by the ruling party men.
