JESSORE: A leader of Jessore district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the ruling party, was shot dead by the miscreants near his residence in the town Saturday night (October 28).

The deceased was identified as Monowar Hossain Emon, 32, former president of the BCL Jessore unit, son of one Anwar Hossain in the town.

Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Azmal Huda told Banglanews that some two-three miscreants shot Emon while he was playing ludo with his friends at Gulgolla mor area near his residence at around 11:45pm.

The miscreants fled away from the scene immediately.

Emon was taken to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later. 

Local sources said that earlier Emon used to receive death threats as he was a strong vocal against drug dealing in the area.

However, police is trying to nab the killers, said OC Azmal.
