DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Thursday (November 2) said that the government must come to a consensus in fulfilling people’s hopes and aspirations through a free and fair election.
He said this in response to a statement ‘no compromise with BNP over next parliamentary elections’ made by Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader.
Mirza Fakhrul was talking to newsmen after a joint meeting of the the party held its central office at Nayapaltan in city.
“Awami League did not want to compromise in the past, but they did it. The country has history of compromise. We have repeatedly said that we don’t want violence. Not for the sake of BNP, with fruitful conversations we want to hold a free and fair election for the sake of the people.”
BNP’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, joint secretary generals Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Majibur Rahman Sarwar were also present at the time.
