DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and some other senior leaders of the party have alleged that Chief Justice SK Sinha was forced to resign as part of government’s ill motive to cling to the power.
The BNP leaders raised their allegation at a discussion on Tuesday (November 14). Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal arranged the discussion at the National Press Club in the city to mark the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
Krishak Dal general secretary and BNP vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu presided over the program, while BNP chairperson’s adviser Ataur Rahman Dhali, the party’s joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and some other leaders of the BNP and the Krishak Dal also spoke it.
Dr Mosharraf said that SK Sinha was forced to resign by mounting pressure on him in many ways. The government wants to cling to the power anyway. So the government forced the Chief Justice to quit, as SK Sinha may hear a writ petition filed on January-5 one-sided polls, he said.
He further said that the forced leave of the Chief Justice is a stigmatized incident for the judiciary and the independence of the court. The government has set up a bed example in the history of the country.
The BNP leader said that there is no democracy in the country. There is no rule of law. The people are experiencing untold miseries due to misrule, misdeeds, price hike of essentials and deterioration of law and order situation. The people don’t want to see the incumbent government in the power, he added.
