DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) sentences ex-MP Abdul Aziz Mia alias Ghoramara Aziz, among six war criminals of Gaibandha, to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Other five war criminals are—Md Ruhul Amin Manju, 61, Md Abdul Latif, 61, Abu Muslim Mohammad Ali, 59, Md Nazmul Huda, 60, and Md Abdur Rahim Miah, 62.
A three-member tribunal led by Chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam handed down the verdict on Wednesday (November 22) morning.
Each of them are convicted on three charges for genocide, murder, detention, abduction, looting and torture.
The court handed over life-term imprisonment upon the first charge while death sentences for latter two charges brought against them.
Of the convicts, Latif is now on jail while the rest five are absconding.
Earlier, the ICT kept the verdict on curia advisari vult (CAV) as the argument from both sides ended on October 23.
However, the verdict in the same case was earlier kept on waiting as the three-member tribunal headed by late Justice Anwarul Haque kept it on CAV on May 9.
