Hartal called for Nov 30 against power price hike

DHAKA: Different left-leaning parties have called a half-day hartal for November 30 protesting the price hike of power.

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BSD) and Gonotantrik Bam Morcha on Thursday (November 23) jointly called the hartal.

In press release, the parties informed that the hartal will be enforced from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm on that day.

Earlier in the morning, the decision of price hike of power was taken by the government. The price has been increased by Tk 0.35 at the retailer level and it will come into effect from December.

The price, however, will remain unchanged for the wholesalers, said a press release issued by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

Earlier, the price for electricity was raised 2.93 percent on average, on September 1.
