DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Saturday (December 02) said that his party is ready to join the general elections anytime if the Parliament is dissolved.
He said this while speaking at a discussion on `Victory Day and Responsibility to Restore the Democracy’ at the National Press Club in the city.
National Peoples Party (NPP), a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, arranged the discussion with the party chairman Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad in the chair. The party general secretary Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa and presidium member M Ohidur Rahman also spoke it, among others.
Barrister Moudud said that the BNP is ready to join the general election whatever it is held before the tenure of the Parliament or after the tenure. But the House has to be dissolved before the polls, he said.
The former law minister further said that if the government wants to arrange mid-term polls, the House has to be dissolved as per the Article 193 of the constitution. “We want it. But the government won’t do it finally,” he said.
