DHAKA: At 12 leaders and activists of the BNP were arrested in the city on Tuesday (December 19) centering the appearance of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in the special court.
Police arrested them from the High Court area and its adjacent areas.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station Abul Hasan said that they arrested them on suspicion. Their movement was dubious during and after appearance of Khaleda Zia in the court.
The BNP chief appeared before the special court, the makeshift court set up on the premises of the Madrasa-e-Alia Dhaka at Bakshibazar in the city, in the Zia Orphanage Trust Graft and the Zia Charitable Trust Graft cases.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in its concluding argument in the Zia Orphanage Trust Graft case demanded the highest punishment for BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and five other accused in the case.
