DHAKA: Shafin Ahmed, vocal-bassist and founding member of popular rock band Miles, is going to compete in the mayoral by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

He will run for the mayor post, from National Democratic Movement (NDM).   

NDM Founder-Chairman Bobby Hajjaj announced Shafin as the nominated candidate, at a press conference in Jatiya Press Club Tuesday (December 26).

Some leaders and activists of the party were present there. Shafin is a high council member of NDM.

NDM hasn’t received approval from the Election Commission (EC) yet. Meanwhile, it has applied for registration.

However, Shafin may run for the election as a liberal candidate, if NDM is denied registration by the EC. 

The DNCC mayor post fell vacant following the death of Annisul Huq on November 30. The by-polls for the post is expected to be held in the last week of February.
