DHAKA: The ruling Awami League will take organizational action against those who were involved in the factional clash during hawker eviction drive at Chasara area in Narayanganj city on Tuesday (January 16).
The party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday (January 17) said that the incident tarnished the image of his party. So, organizational action will be taken against those who are responsible for the incident, he said.
Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said these while talking to journalists at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office in the city.
He called upon the leaders and activists of Narayanganj to show patience.
About the High Court’s stay order in the DNCC polls, the AL spokesperson said that the government has no hands in the matter. Awami League does not do the dirty politics, he said.
Many people were injured in the factional clash between the supporters of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and Awami League MP Shamim Osman.
Ivy also sustained minor injuries during the clash which happened over the NCC’s decision to evict hawkers from the footpaths.
