DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party is not worried about the presidential election.
He made the remark to reporters at a press conference in BNP’s Naya Paltan central office on Tuesday (January 25).
Fakhrul said a total of 50,074 cases were filed against BNP leaders and activists countrywide from 2007 to 2018. Some 11,91,449 BNP men were accused and 3,947 were sent to jail. The reason behind filing those cases is to keep BNP away from the election. We are demanding to withdraw all the cases filed against our men.
The BNP leader also said a level-playing field in necessary to ensure a fair election. For a fair election, the parliament needs to be dissolved first and Prime Minister has to resign.
BNP senior joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and Vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu were also present at the press conference.
