SYLHET: Six activists of Bangladesh Chhatra league (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, have been jailed for four years by a Sylhet court for assaulting an Army officer.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Sylhet Saifuzzaman Hero delivered the verdict on Thursday (January 25).
The court also fined the convicts Tk. 10,000 each, in default, one month more imprisonment.
The convicted BCL men are- Shahriar Roki, Safkat Hossain Shuvo, Kazi Maksud Ahmed, Bhanulal Das, Saiful Islam, Samiron Chowdhury.
The court, however, acquitted two other BCL men. They are Asaduzzaman Khan Juyel and Habibur Rahman Pavel.
Amy officer Maj Abdul Aziz of Jalalabad Cantonment came under attack at Subidbazar intersection when he was going to his house at Kewapara area in the city on April 06 in 2017.
The convicts on two motorcycles intercepted hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically.
Later, Maj Abdul Aziz filed a case under the Penal Code and Speedy Trial Act.
