DHAKA: Rajib Ahsan, president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, was detained in the afternoon on Thursday (February 08).
Police detained the JCD president from a procession in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital city at about 4:45 pm. He was taken to Paltan Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) police’s Motijheel zone Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.
Leaders and activists of the BNP and its front bodies gathered at Nayapaltan after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was convicted for five years imprisonment by a special court.
The Special Court-5 of Dhaka awarded five years imprisonment to the BNP chief in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Her elder son and BNP vice chairman Tarique Rahman and four others were given 10 years imprisonment in the case. The court, however, fined Tk. 2.10 crore each.
