BNP won’t join in plotted polls

DHAKA: Opposition BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia categorically said that his party would not join in the Awami league’s plotted polls without caretaker government.

He came up with the assertion while addressing a discussion arranged by Jatiyotabadi Diploma Engineers’ Association Bangladesh at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Friday morning.

Barrister Rafiqul Islam also said if Awami League assumes power next, the country will face existence crisis.

Throwing a question to Prime Minister under which constitution the election will be held, he added: “Present constitution is an amended constitution which was changed by government without people’s mandate.”

With president of the association Engineer Kazi Sakhawat Hossain in the chair, the discussion was attended, among others, by Jubo Dal Senior vice-president Advocate Abdus Salam, BNP executive general secretary Shawpon and Economist Babu Dr Ashok Gupta.
