A local BNP activist was shot and brutally slaughtered by unidentified attackers in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila on Friday (Dec 27) afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Kabir Hossain alias Chali Kabir, 35.
The incident occurred around 1:40 PM in front of Sujayetpur Jame Mosque in Alaiyapur union.
Kabir, a resident of Sujayetpur village and the son of late Nur Nabi, was an active local BNP worker.
According to eye Witnesses, Kabir had just completed Juma prayers and was leaving the mosque when five to six masked men arrived in a CNG-run autorickshaw. They shot him in the head as he stepped out, causing him to collapse. The attackers then severed his leg tendon and slit his throat before fleeing the scene.
Kabir had returned to the area in August after being absent for some time and reportedly faced multiple cases against him.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police Md. Abdullah-Al-Faruk confirmed the matter.
He said that police visited the scene and are working to uncover the motive behind the murder.
