Jahanara takes break from cricket citing mental health issues

Jahanara Alam, the experienced pacer, has decided to take a two-month break from cricket citing mental health reasons.

The Women’s Wing In-Charge, Habibul Bashar, confirmed the matter to cricket outlet Cricbuzz.

In a letter to the management, Jahanara said that she is not mentally ready to play and requested a break, even suggesting her removal from the central contract if necessary.

Bashar also expressed his respect for Jahanara’s decision, saying the team will wait until she feels ready to return.

Jahanara, who has represented Bangladesh in 52 ODIs and 83 T20Is over her 13-year international career, was recently part of the squad against Ireland but did not feature in any matches.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s women’s team is set for their first-ever West Indies tour, arriving in St. Kitts on January 14. The series includes three ODIs on January 19, 21, and 24, followed by T20Is on January 27, 29, and 31, all to be played at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
