DHAKA: GrameenPhone (GP), a leading mobile phone operator in the country, will provide opportunity to use 2.1 million hours internet service to the students free of cost with the help of BRAC in February.

Chairman of GP board and Director and Executive Vice President of Telenor Group and Head of Asia Region of the group Sigve Brekke came up with the disclosure while he was addressing the inauguration of the program at Dhanmondi in the city on Monday.

Recalling his memory he said, “I lived in a village in Norway when I was 15, I supposed to be a farmer or teacher.”

“However, I had never thought that I would come to Bangladesh to visit a school here. I am here with you and it became possible by the grace of internet,” he said.

Sigve further emphasized the importance of internet use and highlighted its diverse benefits to the students.

He also monitored a quiz competition of the students during his visit.

However, GP has taken an initiative titled “Internet for All” to unveil moral contents, news, information and knowledge publicly.

On the other hand, BRAC is now providing several educational services by operating around 2,500 centers across the country.

GP Senior Director of Strategy, Communications and Capacity Asif Saleh, its Head of Corporate Communications Tahmid Azizul Haque along with the acting Headmaster of girls’ school were present in the program.
