Several Bangladeshi firms have partnered with Starlink to establish ground earth stations across the country. The collaboration comes after contracts were signed between the firms and the US telecommunications provider.
A team from Starlink is currently visiting Bangladesh to facilitate the setup.
The partnership will involve space allocation, construction support, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
During their visit, Starlink's team identified key locations for the stations, with some firms offering support using their own properties and others considering the Hitech Park property.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, expressed optimism that the collaboration would bring reliable, high-speed internet to Bangladesh’s cities and remote areas, overcoming challenges like load shedding and natural disasters.
Taiyeb also mentioned that the partnership would help accelerate digital economic initiatives for entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and small businesses. Efforts are underway to implement a workable model within the next 90 days.
The move follows a February 19 invitation from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, to visit Bangladesh and launch Starlink services.
The Chief Adviser is working closely with Musk's team to ensure the service is ready for launch within the next three months.
