DHAKA: Millions of smartphones and tablets running Google’s Android operating system 4.1.1 have the Heartbleed software bug, reports Bloomberg on Saturday.

A post on Google Online Security Blog said, “All versions of Android are immune to CVE-2014-0160 (with the limited exception of Android 4.1.1; patching information for Android 4.1.1 is being distributed to Android partners).

Android 4.1.1 was released in 2012.

Security researchers said that version of Android is still used in millions of smartphones and tablets, including popular models made by Samsung Electronics Co., HTC Corp. and other manufacturers.

According to Google statistics, 34 percent of Android devices use variations of the 4.1 software.

Google said it would keep working closely with the security research and open source communities to do best ways to keep the users safe.

Though the company said less than 10 percent of active devices are vulnerable among more than 900 million Android activated devices.

The surface of Internet is still buzzing with the potential vulnerability caused by news surrounding CVE-2014-0160, better known as the Heartbleed bug.

The Heartbleed bug was fully disclosed to the Internet on April 7, 2014, but the root cause of the problem was introduced to the OpenSSL platform two years-ago.

Neel Mehta of Google Security discovered this bug while Adam Langley ([email protected]) and Bodo Moeller ([email protected]) have prepared the fix.
