CTO Forum Bangladesh has arranged a workshop on information security and digital rights for member journalists of Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendro (BNSK) on Tuesday (July 26) at the software technology park, Dhaka.
Tapan Kanti Sarkar, President of CTO Forum Bangladesh presided over the workshop where Dr Bikorno Kumar Gosh, Vice President (CTO Forum Bangladesh) and Managing Director, Nasimun Ara Haq Minu, President Bangladesh, Nari Sangbadik Kendor, were present as special guests.
The workshop was conducted by Arfe Elahi Manik, Secretary General, CTO Forum Bangladesh and the session was moderated by Naznin Nahar, Technical Secretary, Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendro (BNSK).
Dr Bikorno Kumar Gosh stated that Bangladesh government is aiming to create a knowledge-based society by the year 2041, where journalists will play a crucial role.
If the journalist offers helpful criticism of our work, we will be able to improve and go forward; if they complement our efforts, we will be motivated to work even harder, he added.
During her speech, special guest Ms Nasimun Ara Haq said, the cyber harassment of women has been increasing gradually and we need to make people aware of that.
In addition, skilled and trained journalists can help here through their writing. I am sharing my personal safety Ms Haq said the girls should always keep their mobiles active whenever they have to work away from the office or home.
Besides, they can share their location with any of their family members whenever they are on any special assignment, she added.
Mr Elahhi offered the audience with practical information security and news verification knowledge in his keynote address.
Security must start with the individual, starting with your email and Facebook account password and proceeding through cyber hacking, malware, mobile security, and safe internet use, he added.
He covered the important challenges of cyber dangers, as well as remedies, and claimed that. When using and sharing information online, we must be alert and cautious.
We cannot deny how technology is changing our lives and the economy of the country, but we can increase awareness of its beneficial effects. We must educate ourselves on cyber security and vulnerability to do this.
We must be aware and cautious in our online usage, and sharing. Technology is reshaping our lives and national economy, so we cannot ignore its positive impact, but what we can raise is awareness. To do so, we must learn about cyber security and vulnerability.
Mr Tapan Kanti Sarkar concluded by stating that we are working to make it possible for people to work in the ICT industry and to educate people about the risks associated with using the internet and other forms of technology.
We organized the innovation hackathon because we want our young people to be capable of addressing problems and actively involved in ensuring cyber security in everyday life, he added.
“To increase the engagement of women in IT, it is crucial to address the enormous vulnerability of women in the digital environment. If our female journalists were educated and skilled in cyber security, they would be better able to inform the public than we are,” he said.
He further said that this workshop is the starting of it and it will continue in the future with additional forums.
