The Trump administration has withdrawn another $450 million in federal grants from Harvard University, intensifying an ongoing dispute over anti-Semitism, academic freedom, and institutional governance.
The decision follows the suspension of $2.2 billion in federal funding last week, with officials accusing Harvard of fostering racial discrimination and failing to uphold principles of accountability.
A joint task force, convened under President Donald Trump, released a statement alleging that Harvard’s leadership prioritizes ideological signaling over academic integrity, asserting that the university had "forfeited its claim to taxpayer support."
The feud began in March, when Trump sought to introduce new regulations for top universities that had hosted pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
The president has labeled such protests "illegal", citing concerns over anti-Semitism, while student activists insist their actions are peaceful responses to Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
Tuesday’s financial decision underscores the administration’s broader push to reshape funding priorities, linking federal support to institutional policy alignment with the government.
Harvard, a prestigious Ivy League institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has yet to issue an official response.
