A student of Eden Mohila College died after she fell from a battery-run rickshaw on the North South Road in the capital’s Bangshal area on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Umme Salma, 24, daughter of Golam Kibria of Charfassion upazila of Bhola.

She was a master's student in Bangla Department of the college.

The accident took place when Salma along with her cousin Mohamamd Hasan were heading towards her college hostel on the rickshaw from Sadarghat area.

Mohammad Hasan, cousin of the deceased said, Salma fell on the road when the rickshaw carrying the victim lurched heavily as it was crossing a speed breaker around 4:15am. She was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) with critical injury where doctor declared her dead at 5:00am.

The body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, Inspector Bachchu Mia, also in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said.
