The 17th founding anniversary of Jagannath University (JnU) is being celebrated on its campus today (Oct 20).

To mark the day, the university is organising colourful processions, discussions and cultural events.

National flag has been hoisted at 9:10am along with flag of the university and the national anthem will be sung in the morning. JnU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Imdadul Hoque inaugurated the day promgramme by releasing pigeons as well as balloons on the campus.

A procession marched on the different roads of the campus this morning. Later, an art exhibition will be arranged on the campus.

Besides, discussion and cultural events will also be held today marking the day.

VC Prof Imdadul Hoque said: "I am working to transform Jagannath University into a real university. I have doubled the budget in the research sector comparing to that of the last time. The budget for library, ICT, and purchasing computers has been increased. 

He hoped to increase the research budget in the future and to raise the university to an international standard. 

"Our students have many limitations. There is no accommodation facilities, can't eat nutritious food, and still our students are leaving a mark of signature in all areas," the VC added.
