Renowned film actress Anjana Rahman passed away on Friday night at the age of 59 while receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association president Misha Sawdagar confirmed the news.
Actor Zayed Khan and other members of the film and entertainment industry also shared their condolences on Facebook.
Her namaz-e-janaza was held on the FDC premises this morning.
Anjana had been on life support for three days before her passing. She was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka on December 24 with a fever, which was later diagnosed as a blood infection that caused severe complications, including heart and kidney issues, fluid in the lungs, and a stroke.
Born on June 27, 1965, in Dhaka (then East Pakistan), Anjana was celebrated as one of the country's most talented actresses, especially noted for her dancing abilities. She appeared in over 300 films throughout her illustrious career.
Her first released film was Doshshu Bonhur (1976), directed by Shamsuddin Togor, although her acting debut was in the same year with Setu, directed by Babul Chowdhury. Her breakthrough came with Matir Maya in 1976.
Anjana starred alongside actor Razzak in 30 films, including Ashikkhito, Rajanigandha, Ashar Alo, Jinjir, Anarkali, Bidhata, Bourani, Sonar Horin, Ram Rahim John, Matir Putul, Shaheb Bibi Golam, and Obhijan.
She married producer-director Azizur Rahman Buli (1946–2022) and appeared in two of his films, Lalu Sardar and Nepali Meye.
Anjana received the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performances in Parineeta and Gangchill.
