DHAKA: British High Commissioner to Dhaka Robert Gibson on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the continued confrontation instead of dialogue between the two major political parties—opposition BNP and ruling Awami League.

The discontent came from an official statement issued by the British High Commission.

The statement came after the BNP-led 18-party alliance on Saturday extended its scheduled 72-hour nationwide hartal to 12 hours more protesting the arrest of senior BNP leaders.

The British envoy said: “I am disappointed that we have seen continued confrontational action rather than constructive dialogue between the two main parties that could result in the outcome desired by most ordinary Bangladeshis: free, fair and credible elections in which all parties participate.”
