Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui on Monday (May 12) accused India of a "planned push-in" of people into Bangladesh, including registered Rohingya refugees.
Speaking after a law and order committee meeting at the Home Ministry, he said the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed in 202 people on May 7-8 through remote, uninhabited border areas.
Among them, 39 were Rohingya registered in Bangladesh’s camps, five were UNHCR-registered refugees in India, and others were Bangladeshis who had lived in India for years—some with Aadhaar cards.
The BGB chief said verified Bangladeshis were being sent home, while Rohingya were returned to camps.
However, he called India’s push-in of UNHCR-registered refugees a "human rights violation" and said protests were lodged via flag meetings and diplomatic channels, he said.
BGB vigilance blocked another 200-300 people from being pushed into Khagrachhari, but 78 were later abandoned in the Sundarbans’ Mandarbaria char, rescued by the Coast Guard, he added.
