The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in several parts of the country over the next 24 hours, beginning 9:00am Thursday (May 15).
In its latest bulletin, the BMD said light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at a few places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, while isolated showers may occur in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.
The bulletin also warned of moderately heavy to heavy rainfall in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet, raising concerns of localized waterlogging.
Meanwhile, a mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping across Khulna and Barishal divisions and several districts including Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Chandpur. The heatwave may ease in some areas, the BMD added.
Daytime temperatures may fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged across the country.
A trough of low pressure from West Bengal to the North Bay through southwestern Bangladesh is influencing the current weather patterns, the agency said.
On Tuesday, the country’s highest temperature was recorded at 39.5°C in Chuadanga, while the lowest on Thursday morning was 21.3°C in Sylhet.
In Dhaka, the sun will set at 6:34 pm and rise at 5:16 am on Friday.
