RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: Three platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were deployed on Rajshahi University campus and a syndicate meeting was called on Sunday evening amid the unrest of agitated students.

Sources said that three-platoon BGB members were deployed around 4:00pm besides that a large number of law enforcers are on duty in the university area to avert unwanted situation.

On the other hand, a syndicate meeting was called around 7:00pm, at the residence of the Vice-Chancellor Sarwar Jahan Sajal of the university.

If the unrest continues in the campus than the academic buildings as well as student halls will be closed for indefinite period, sources added.

Earlier, on Saturday morning, hundreds of Rajshahi University students brought out a procession protesting the additional fees and evening shift for master’s courses.

About two thousands students took part at the procession. The students locked all academic buildings from 7:00am on the day.

Earlier on Thursday, students also observed a strike and abstained themselves from attending classes.

The VC of Rajshahi University further said that the academic committee will decide on evening shift for master’s courses issue.

Moreover, more than 50 students of the University were injured as the leaders and activists of Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, attacked on them in the campus on Sunday noon.
