Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali said 80,000 to 90,000 members of the police were recruited politically over the past 15 years. 

He made the remark during a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Mintoo Road on Monday (Dec 9).

Replying to a query, the DMP boss said, "Before recruiting these members, their backgrounds were thoroughly checked, including their political affiliations, as well as those of their parents, grandparents, and even earlier generations." 

Out of the 2 lakh members in the police force, this group was recruited under such considerations, he said.

"However, we cannot simply tell these 80,000 to 90,000 members to ‘go home.’ But those who have been involved in misconduct or unprofessional activities are being held accountable," Sajjad Ali said.
