Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained seven Bangladeshi nationals, including two human traffickers, trying to cross the border into India through Madhabpur in Habiganj.
The detainees were handed over to Madhabpur Police Station by the 25-BGB Sarail Battalion on Tuesday (December 24).
The detainees are - Ghanu Ranjan Sarkar, 23, Govinda Das, 37, Dharma Das, 23, Sushil Shahaji, 20, Monir Mia, 45, Hridoy Mia, 25, and Mokhlesur Rahman, 30. Among them, Hridoy Mia and Mokhlesur Rahman are known human traffickers from the Madhabpur border area. The other five had paid them to facilitate their illegal entry into India.
According to BGB and police sources, the group was apprehended by a BGB patrol team near border pillar 1996/5-S, 50 meters inside Bangladeshi territory at Sostamura in Madhabpur on Monday night (December 23). They were attempting to cross into India without passports or visas.
Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
A case will be filed against the detainees under the Passport Act. They will later be sent to jail through the court, he added.
