Gold worth Tk 3.5 Crore stolen from Sylhet shop

A total of 250 bhori (around 2.9 kg) of gold worth approximately Tk 3.5 crore was robbed by an unknown robbery gang from a shopping mall of Sylhet.

The incident happened at Nurani Jewellers in Al Hamra Shopping early Thursday.

According to eyewitnesses, before leaving the robbers broke into the shop on the fourth floor, disabling CCTV cameras, removing the DVR, and securing the shutter with a new padlock.

Eyewitnesses said, the theft was discovered around 11 a.m. when the shop owner, Dewan Md. Javed Chowdhury, and his employees broke the new lock.

Javed Chowdhury said this was the first such incident in the shopping complex. Two security guards were on duty on the floor during the night, and 22 guards work in shifts at the market.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haque confirmed the matter.

He said the incident seemed suspicious, as no unusual movements were detected on the working cameras, and guards reported no disturbances.

Police are investigating the incident, although no formal complaint has been filed yet, he added.
